Brainstorming Exercises
Brainstorming is a process that is learned and practiced. It is not only for groups, but we can brainstorm on our own and there are ways to help you achieve this. There are some brainstorming exercises that will enable you to use your brainstorming skills that you learn.
For instance, you may be working on some ideas for a presentation for a class at school. There is a chance that you will want to use some brainstorming techniques to help you with this project and you may use some without even realizing it. But to help you on your presentation, there are a few exercises that you can do that will help.
1.Write down the topic of your presentation, what points do you want to get across to the audience. What do you want the message to represent? Don’t worry about writing everything correctly, this is not your paper for school. You are just getting the basics down to start the foundation of your brainstorming session.
2.Draw a circle in the middle of another piece of paper. In that circle write the main idea of your presentation. It can be one word or a whole sentence, doesn’t matter, just write it down. Now draw some more circles all the way around, leaving room to right in them.
3.Let me make an example here for you; lets say your presentation is on woodworking. With that in the middle, lets think about things that have to do with woodworking for your presentation.
4.In one circle, write books (why books?) What would books have to do with woodworking? What about books filled with woodworking plans and ideas? So, there you go, you have one leg…draw a line from that circle and connect it to your topic. I will give you another idea, what about hand tools? Write that in another circle and connect it to the center.
5.Fill up every circle with everything you can think of that have to do with woodworking or whatever your topic happens to be. This will open up channels in your mind that have been restricted. You are now using lateral thinking, your creative side, and your logical side meeting together to form a creative way of thinking. A problem solving tool that you never thought you had.
You are now on your way…these are examples brainstorming exercises that will open up a new way to learn, to study, and to reach success in your life. Now go start exercising.
