Advantages of Brainstorming

Brainstorming is the new innovation of thinking, getting the creativity that we all hold deep inside us just waiting to be let out.   When we have so many decisions to make every day…it seems that we reach into our thoughts and feel we have pulled out all the stops and there is nothing left.  We pace the floor, trying to think.  We then sit down, hoping by some miracle,  a new thought will pop into our head.  But sadly, it never seems to come.

Can you imagine all the time that would have been saved if everyone that has wasted those many hours pacing the floor,  got together for a little brainstorming bash?  The ideas would be flying across that room like an Olympic volleyball team.  One thought out loud triggers another thought, then before you know it, there is a whole new set of ideas that would have never reached the surface when they were all pacing their floors.

The advantages of brainstorming are endless, but I will list a few here.

  • Positive and healthy atmosphere, all working toward the same goal.
  • Teamwork!
  • Hundreds of ideas!
  • Chance of being heard
  • Great place for even the shy and timid to add their thoughts
  • Free for all, no holds barred
  • Open to all ideas, no matter how silly or serious they may be

There are some great advantages of brainstorming for children as well.  When this method is used in the classroom, it helps everyone to open up.  When there are so many ideas and thoughts being passed around, and everything is being accepted, nothing rejected, a timid child that my not normally speak up, or think what he has to say would matter, actually open up in these sessions.

What a great way to teach these children how to tap into their creative lateral thinking process.  Help them to understand and value the advantages of brainstorming not only now, but for the rest of their lives.  They will learn how to think and obtain problem solving skills.  This is a valuable tool that should be used by everyone…..think about it.
